Numerology and Life Paths

Note: I am not a numerologist, or an expert in the field. This is simply my understanding and how it’s changed my view of my experience.

To say I’ve been on a mission to understand who I am, and why my life has played out as it has is to put it lightly. I’ve tried to keep my mind open to any and all possibilities, which is how I stumbled into Numerology and Life Paths.

Numerology in it’s essence is the knowledge, belief, understanding that each number on a scale of 0-9 has an intrinsic energy associated with it. There are a few different numerology frameworks, but it all seems to all have in common the date you incarnate to this planet and the birth name you are given can provide a map of what you may value, experience and learn in this life time.

The map analogy I found helpful because it doesn’t mean it necessarily will or won’t happen, it’s simply a guide. If I want to drive from Napier to Wellington to visit friends, I can jump in the car and start driving, maybe follow some road signs. Or I can look at the map and guestimate my time, pick a route etc. There is no one way, or one approach. It’s up to you and how you want to tackle your trip. But some people find comfort in the knowing. I’m one of those people. I truly between knowledge is power, if you use it.

Numerology, it doesn’t guarantee anything! It just says that these things might help you understand your journey to find resolution or even comfort. It doesn’t help you circumvent pain, grief or distress, but it can help you understand more of why you process it as you do.

The Basic Premise of Numerology

Here are a few things to know;

  • All things in life work in a 9 year cycle.

  • The different letters in the alphabet and different numbers found in the calendar have attributes, certain traits or values.

  • Each number has an associated energy to it (i.e. 1 = Independence, Innovation, Self reliance, while 2 = balance, harmony etc)

  • When you calculate your birth name and/or current name (if you changed your name, go by a nick name etc) can reflect a change in the energy you attract.

  • Your birthday, month and year also have assigned numbers.

In numerology you calculate;

  • Birth Day, Life Path, Soul Path, Personality Number, Destiny Path, Maturity Number and Current Name - which all contribute to the overall energies that will affect your life.

  • Then you have a Current Year Number - the energy of that year and how you might be impacted. You may notice some years feel a bit easier than others.

  • On top of those there are Pinnacles, Challenges, Transit, Life Cycles etc which gets into a bit more details at specific points throughout your life.

Books

  • The first book I got was The Numerology Guidebook, Uncover Your Destiny and the Blueprint of Your Life, by Michelle Buchanan. It’s great, super simple to read, reference and understand. This is what I first used to calculate my numbers and understand where I’m at in life.

  • I then bought The Life You Were Born to Live, by Dan MacMillan which is more about Life Paths. This book I found incredible.

Life Paths

In numerology you reduce everything down to a single digit (exempt for master numbers, which is a whole other thing), but in The Life You Were Born To Live it goes into more depth to understand the sum of your birthdate and what “laws” may affect your life.

As I said in the analogy above this is an exact “this will happen, or that will happen” it’s more the energy of the challenges and opportunities that may arise in your life to help you learn and grow in this lifetime.

For example mine is 14-11-1984, so that is 1 + 4 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 29. Then 2 + 9 = 11/2. You can also use his website www.peacefulwarrior.com to calculate it and get a quick overview of your life path.

Each number has an overview, what your life is like when you’re working in the positive, and the negative, your health and relationship influences, other famous people with the same life path number, a series of questions to ask yourself, and then the laws that govern your life path.

Why I love Numerology

I guess it comes down to finding anything that can help me understand myself better so I can live my life with intention and purpose. In scratching the surface of numerology it’s helped me find resolution and acceptance for how certain events and relationships in my life. It has helped me let go of trying to everything to everyone and just focus on who I am and what I can do in this lifetime.

For example, I used to get really hung up on why others couldn’t deal with change or be paralysed by the fear of making a decision. Where as I never think anything through and just do things and then wonder why later everything is so bloody hard. But this has helped me understand the differences in people.

Nothing is better or worse, it just is!

It also helps me understand those closest to me. And as a parent help understand what our children may face so I can help in any way I can to guide or support them in their life journeys.

I get it’s not for everyone. It’s not 100% scientific fact, but I’m ok with that. I’m ok with paying attention to what sits well with me and letting go of everything that doesn’t.

Happy counting and reading!
